(Washington, DC)—On August 14, 2015, the Corporación Interamericana para el Financiamiento de Infraestructura S.A., a sociedad anónima registered under the laws of the Republic of Panama (“CIFI”) closed on a US$4.5 million secured loan to two Ecuadorian companies (Lojaenergy S.A, and Renovaloja S.A.). Structured as a limited recourse project financing, the proceeds of the loan are intended for the purpose of financing capital expenditures in connection with the development, operation and maintenance of a 2.3 MW photovoltaic power project in the Republic of Ecuador. The security included pledges of shares of the Ecuadorian project companies and security interest in the project’s assets (including equipment, land and bank accounts) effected through an Ecuadorian trust (fideicomiso mercantil de garantía y administración de flujos), as well as sponsor support obligations.

The U.S. based firm of Andrews Kurth LLP, advised CIFI as international counsel. Local legal advice was provided by Perez Bustamante & Ponce Abogados in Ecuador.
