Wally Martinez: Keep an eye on this son of Cuban immigrants — brought in from a client at the age of 39 to run the firm, which had the third-highest laterals last year with profitability and revenue on the rise.
Martinez was a founding partner of the firm’s Miami office, where he practiced until joining Diageo, the world’s leading premium drinks business, in late 2004. At Diageo, he was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Diageo North America Inc., responsible for all legal affairs of the multibillion dollar North American division. He rejoined Hunton & Williams in March 2006 as the firm’s Managing Partner and was among the few Hispanic Americans to lead a major US-based law firm, with international offices.
