Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP partner Shemin V. Proctor has been recognized as one of the Texas Diversity Council’s 2022 Top Women Lawyers Award Winners. The annual award celebrates individuals who have not only achieved personal success, but have driven change and innovation in their fields while inspiring others to succeed. Selected winners should maintain a superior level of integrity across the full spectrum of legal dealings and responsibilities and exemplify a noteworthy commitment to fairness, equity and justice in client representations, among other criteria.

Shemin, former managing partner of the firm’s Washington, DC office, is a dedicated member of the Hunton Andrews Kurth team, dividing her time between the DC and Houston offices. She has been recognized as a leading lawyer in energy regulation by publications such as Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 U.S., and Thomson Reuters for her representation of major energy companies before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and federal courts. In addition to her active energy practice, Shemin co-chairs the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and has helped lead the firm to milestones including 100% lawyer participation in diversity and inclusion activities and Mansfield Rule Plus certification for the last three years. She is also a founding member of the University of Texas School of Law’s Center for Women in Law, and from 2010 to 2018, she served as the director of the See Forever Foundation of the Maya Angelou Charter Schools. Shemin is frequently invited to speak at events on energy, leadership and women in law.

Shemin was recognized at the virtual Texas Legal Diversity Summit, themed “A Firm Foundation: Reaching for Excellence with DE&I,” on September 27, 2022.
