Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP partner Rudene Mercer Haynes was recently recognized by the MLK RVA committee as one of 12 recipients of the MLK Drum Major Award at the 22nd annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration in Richmond, VA. Drum Major Award winners are individuals and organizations nominated by their community and recognized for their servant leadership and the differences they make in the lives of others.

Haynes was honored alongside Dr. Robert Winn for their work leading Facts & Faith Fridays, a program founded in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Facts & Faith Fridays connects VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and the African American faith-based community in ongoing dialogue around systemic racism and health inequity, medical myths and mistrust, health resources in urban and rural communities, cancer risks and prevention, and more.

Haynes co-leads the firm’s servicer advance financing practice, and has historically represented Ginnie Mae in its Multiclass and Mortgage-Backed Securities programs. The results of her work representing issuers and underwriters in US asset-backed securities and mortgage-backed securities has helped make homeownership affordable and possible for many Americans. Haynes also serves as firm-wide hiring partner, where she is committed to expanding the pipeline of diverse candidates and creating a culture of inclusion where everyone has the opportunity to excel in the legal profession.
