Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that partners Emily Burkhardt Vicente, Ann Marie Mortimer and Jane Hinton were recognized by the Los Angeles Business Journal at their 2023 Women’s Leadership Symposium and Awards. The award ceremony was hosted on June 28, where Vicente was honored as a finalist for Mentor of the Year, Mortimer as an Executive of the Year nominee and Hinton as a Champion for Women nominee.

Co-chair of the firm’s labor and employment team, Vicente is an accomplished trial lawyer who has defended some of the largest Fortune 100 companies in high-stakes employment and wage-hour litigation and is experienced in taking hybrid class and collective action cases to jury trial. She has helped a number of clients navigate sexual harassment claims fraught with legal and public relations challenges in the #metoo era. In her counseling practice, Vicente assists companies in developing forward-thinking compliance strategies that reduce disputes and mitigate employment-related risks. In the last several years, she has creatively advised a variety of businesses through workforce issues attendant to closing, reopening and operating a business during the unprecedented challenges created by COVID-19. Vicente also works with companies nationwide on the design and implementation of diversity and inclusion programs and other ESG initiatives. Additionally, Vicente serves as co-chair of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, which is dedicated to advancing the promotion, retention, and advancement of diverse lawyers and staff within the firm and community.

Head of the firm’s commercial litigation practice and founder and managing partner of the Los Angeles office, Mortimer is well-versed in advising high-profile clients on challenging class action, complex commercial and data breach cases. She was the lead lawyer defending an internet service provider in a class action lawsuit that has been deemed the largest data breach in history and was featured as lead counsel on one of the Daily Journal’s Top Defense Verdicts in California for her representation of one of the largest American multinational big box retailers in a class action lawsuit involving an alleged data privacy breach and its precedent-setting decision was one of the first dismissals of a California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) claim on the merits. Mortimer’s leadership in cybersecurity litigation extends to model leadership within her firm and the community as one of only a handful of female office managing partners in California and a member of the firm’s executive committee.

As a partner on the Capital Finance & Real Estate Team, Hinton brings a broad range of experience to commercial real estate and finance transactions, representing investors, financial institutions, investment funds, and other clients in single-asset and portfolio transactions nationally. She focuses on highly structured debt and equity real estate transactions for California based client and transactions while also maintaining a nationwide diversified practice in real estate law. Hinton also serves as an Office Diversity and Inclusion Initiative Leader for the firm’s Los Angeles office, working to promote engagement opportunities and educational programs on diversity. She is also the point-of-contact for the Los Angeles Office Women’s Mentoring Circle and has arranged several networking events as well as more formal training on quick elevator pitches that women in law can use for value propositioning and career advancement.
