Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that partners Shannon S. Broome and Ann Marie Mortimer have been recognized among the 2021 Top Women Lawyers in California by the Daily Journal. This coveted, West Coast-ranking highlights just 100 female lawyers practicing and barred in California, who have made a difference to their clients, their firms and their profession during this unprecedented year.

Broome is the managing partner of the San Francisco office, leads the California environmental practice, and co-leads the firm’s Environmental, Social and Governance practice. She is frequently sought by Fortune 50 energy and manufacturing companies for her litigation and negotiation skills and has 30 years of experience challenging and defending EPA and California regulations, defending enforcement actions before federal and state courts and agencies, and obtaining complex permits from environmental agencies. The Daily Journal highlighted in particular her litigation successes, defending major EPA regulations from challenge arguing for a coalition of national trade associations that included the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and defending a major corporation’s chemical plant expansion in the Fifth Circuit.  The Daily Journal also featured her defense of aftermarket auto parts suppliers from the racing industry against recent EPA enforcement initiatives, where she is emphasizing fairness, notice, and transparency concerns.  Finally, the Journal noted her new role as co-President of the California chapter of the national Women’s Energy Network, where she continues her longstanding work mentoring women professionals in the energy industry.  This is the fifth time that Broome has been selected among the Daily Journal’s Top Women Lawyers.

As the founder and managing partner of Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Los Angeles office, Mortimer is an accomplished litigator and a strategic problem solver focused on achieving positive business results in complex cases. She is at the forefront of novel cybersecurity litigation threatening the fundamental business of global brands. She has first-chaired high-profile cases to resolution and her ability to decode technical allegations into common-sense themes is among the reasons clients return to her repeatedly to assist with their most complex class action, commercial and data breach cases. Mortimer has handled and successfully resolved major cases for multiple clients, including a big box retailer in one of the first alleged California Consumer Privacy Act actions and Yahoo! (now Verizon) closing the chapter in what has been reported as the largest data breach in history with a highly favorable settlement. Mortimer is firmly established as a go-to litigation attorney when clients face significant data breaches, serving as the lead attorney representing Facebook solely as plaintiff’s counsel and defending other prominent clients. In addition to this being the third time the Daily Journal has recognized her as a Top Women Lawyer, Mortimer was recently named by the Daily Journal to its list of Top Cyber Lawyers in California.
