Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is proud to share that New York partner and co-chair of the firm’s global real estate practice, Laurie Grasso, has been named to the 2021 Power 100 list by Commercial Observer. This elite list honors “commercial real estate’s most powerful players” and comes on the heels of Commercial Observer’s recent cover profile of Grasso, “The Counselor.”

In its 14th year, the Power 100 recognizes power players in the real estate industry who are considered to be “the most adept leaders who rose to the top by thinking differently, by challenging the status quo, and by rewriting the definition of excellence.”

Grasso was recognized particularly for one of her first tasks as practice co-chair of finalizing Savanna’s $435 million purchase of 1375 Broadway. Commercial Observer said, “While the deal would have been a Herculean task in normal times, it happened to be closing during the pandemic’s early months.”

The publication also noted that “since the start of 2020, Grasso has led $2.6 billion of transactions for the firm” and that she assisted clients “far past deal closings during the pandemic, being tapped by clients for day-to-day advisory services and to pinpoint investment opportunities (and, in some cases, even shepherding clients away from pandemic-related distressed situations in favor of a more compassionate approach).”

Grasso has a client roster that includes private equity funds, institutional REITs, investors and other property owners. She frequently represents them in connection with the structuring and closing of real estate transactions, such as acquisitions and dispositions, developments, financings, portfolio transactions, preferred equity investments, leasing and real estate joint ventures. Grasso helps to spearhead the firm’s partnership with Project Destined and serves as co-chair for Rebuilding New York’s “She Builds” program. Additionally, this fall she will help launch a Project Destined “offshoot that will work with women who lost jobs during the pandemic and aim to get them into commercial real estate.” Grasso is frequently recognized by a multitude of industry publications and organizations, including most recently being recognized by Crain’s in their “Notable Women in Law” listing, as well as listing of “Notable in Real Estate.”
