(Houston, Texas)—Andrews Kurth is pleased to announce that Houston Office Managing Partner, Robin Russell, has been recognized by Texas Lawyer as a 2016 Woman in Energy Honoree.

The honorees are outstanding female attorneys in Texas who practice in the ever-changing area of energy law. These are women who prevail in high-stakes cases that make law or have an impact nationally or statewide in their regulatory, in-house or law firm positions.

Ms. Russell is the co-chair of the firm’s Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring section and serves as a member of numerous firm committees, including the Policy and Finance Committees. Robin has broad experience in the energy sector and is recognized for her expertise in dealing with distressed energy companies. Her experience includes representation of debtors, independent boards, bidders for oil & gas assets in bankruptcy, royalty owners, Official Committees of Unsecured Creditors, and major creditors. She also works closely with the firm’s corporate and business transactions sections to structure energy transactions outside of bankruptcy to minimize counterparty risks.

Robin is a frequent speaker and writer on energy topics. In 2016, she was a panelist on “Midstream Oil & Gas Issues” at the American College of Bankruptcy Fifth Circuit Conference, a panelist on “Oil & Gas Hot Topics” at the Fifth Circuit Bankruptcy Bench-Bar Conference, spoke on “Counter Party Risk Assessment in Times of Market Volatility” at the EUCI Conference on Financial Restructuring & Turn-Around for Oil & Gas Companies and was a panelist on “Energy Restructuring” at the Tudor Pickering Holt & Co. Energy Conference. She does annual training on “Oil & Gas Lending” for sixteen state bankers associations including Texas, North Dakota and Oklahoma.

Cited as a leading lawyer in her field by numerous legal and trade publications, Ms. Russell is listed as one of Chambers & Partners USA’s Leading Business Lawyers in Bankruptcy and Restructuring, among The Best Lawyers in America® and as a Texas “Super Lawyer.” This year, Robin was honored by the State Bar of Texas with the 2016 Akard Award and recognized as a "Women Who Mean Business" Finalist by the Houston Business Journal. She is an elected fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy, and in 2011 was named by the National Diversity Council as one of the Most Powerful and Influential Women in Texas. In 2015, she was recognized as one of "Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women of 2014” by Houston Woman Magazine, and in 2014, she received the Louise B. Raggio Award from the State Bar of Texas Women and the Law Section.

Robin began practicing law at Andrews Kurth following a Texas Supreme Court clerkship. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Baylor University School of Law in 1986 where she was the highest ranking graduate and Editor-in-Chief of the Baylor Law Review. She holds an LL.M in Banking Law Studies from Boston University.

The honorees will be recognized in the December issue of Texas Lawyer magazine. An event will also be held in their honor December 5, 2016 at the Magnolia Hotel in Houston to recognize their achievements in this practice area.
