Session Description

Our panel discussion will bring together thought leaders and practitioners to share current knowledge, information and insights about successful strategies for doing business in Latin America.

Panel I will discuss the economic, political and business outlook in Latin America, focusing on issues such as:

  • Impact of Global Events - U.S./Euro-crisis, rise of Asian investment and trade agreement controversies
  • Political developments in the region affecting business
  • "Risk ratings" for various Latin American countries and what that means to you

Panel II will address the issues discussed in the first panel at the practitioners' level, to provide insights on successful strategies and pitfalls to avoid when doing deals and operating in Latin America, and will discuss:

  • Risk Mitigation - local resources, understanding cultural pitfalls before you get too far into a deal, business insurance and taxation developments
  • Tales from the Trenches - success stories and also the unanticipated problems encountered while doing business in the region
  • International Arbitration - insights on topics such as the ICSID Convention and the implications for investors
