Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is proud to announce that partner Walter J. Andrews has been named a 2021 ‘Distinguished Leader’ honoree by the Daily Business Review (DBR). The DBR’s annual legal awards event recognizing professional excellence in legal work across Florida will be held in person in May.

“I’m very honored to be recognized and included among a group of accomplished and distinguished colleagues,” said Walter Andrews.

As the head of the firm’s Insurance Coverage practice, Andrews supervises more than 25 lawyers and advises clients in a diverse range of industries.  He has more than 30 years of experience managing insurance-related issues, including insurance program audits, policy manuscripting, counseling, litigation, and arbitration.

Andrews is admitted to practice before courts and arbitral bodies across the United States and abroad, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He litigates and arbitrates insurance coverage and bad faith disputes involving business interruption, product liability, construction defect, reinsurance matters, cyberinsurance and other emerging claims. He has also served as an expert witness in insurance matters and as an arbitrator in insurance coverage arbitrations.

Under his leadership, the Insurance Coverage practice has obtained billions of dollars in insurance and reinsurance recoveries for policyholders and insured clients. Most recently, the group developed a COVID-19 Pandemic Resource Center dedicated to educating clients about the challenges relating to the recovery of COVID-19 related losses and has filed over 100 insurance claims arising out of COVID-19 business interruption losses.

A prolific author, Andrews has written more than 50 articles on insurance law. He regularly publishes articles on insurance and risk management topics and is highly sought after as a speaker at events across the country. He is a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel, a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a member of the American Bar Association and served as Chair of the ABA Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee from 2003 to 2006.

Andrews is regularly recognized for his professional and community service by Chambers USA, Legal 500 and the Daily Business Review, among others.

A true champion of diversity, he is committed to hiring, mentoring, and sponsoring diverse lawyers. This commitment is evidenced in the composition of Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Insurance Recovery practice group in which 50 percent of lawyers are of diverse backgrounds.
