Hunton Andrews Kurth is pleased to announce the National Law Journal has recognized partner John Shely among its 2021 Healthcare/Life Sciences Trailblazers. The list spotlights legal professionals who have made significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancements in their sector. According to the National Law Journal, the honorees are not simply lawyers who have worked on big deals but agents of change.

In addition to being named a 2021 Healthcare/Life Sciences Trailblazer, The National Law Journal recognized John Shely among its 2021 Insurance Trailblazers as well. The list features 30 movers and shakers in the insurance legal industry who are making a difference.

For the last three decades, Shely has served as the champion of managed care organizations (MCOs) in the nation's courts. Due to his success, he has contributed to the reshaping of healthcare law, reducing the cost of providing for-profit healthcare and simultaneously improving the quality of that care.

The National Law Journal notes that “Shely’s successful strategies include understanding that juries and neutrals often are thinking against insurance companies at the start. ‘You may start a little behind, but you want to be able to show the court why you are right in this matter,’” Shely said.
