Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP partner Emily Burkhardt Vicente was honored by the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 2021 Diversity & Inclusion Awards as a nominee for Best Diversity & Inclusion Executive of the Year. The awards program took place March 24th and recognized diversity and inclusion champions in the Los Angeles region for their ongoing efforts to celebrate and respect the unique needs and perspectives of all their team members while simultaneously creating an inclusive environment that enables diversity to thrive.

As co-chair of the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Vicente has worked to promote opportunities for diverse lawyers within the firm and profession. She has skillfully navigated this role, particularly in recent years in which pay equity, the #metoo movement, racial equality, gender identity and other inclusiveness conversations require a mix of empathy, honesty and practicality from our leaders.

Beyond the firm, Vicente dedicates time to advancing diversity and philanthropic causes in the community. She is actively involved in the LA County Bar Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Committee and regularly helps clients design and implement effective diversity and inclusion policies and programs to promote diversity within their own organizations. Vicente also regularly uses her legal skills to represent clients in pro bono matters. Most recently, Vicente has helped non-profit organizations navigate the employment challenges of COVID-19, rectify wage and hour issues, and create policies that comply with applicable employment laws.

All nominees, including Vicente, were featured in the March 22nd edition of the Los Angeles Business Journal.
