Miami — January 21, 2010 — Hunton & Williams LLP proudly announces it has received the 2010 Chief Justice’s Law Firm Commendation Award from the Florida Supreme Court in recognition of the firm’s commitment to provide access to the courts for all Floridians. The commendation will be presented by Chief Justice Peggy A. Quince at a January 28 ceremony.

"This is a wonderful and well-deserved tribute to the dedication of the Miami lawyers and staff to serving the neediest in our community," said Wally Martinez, managing partner of Hunton & Williams. Tom Julin, who heads the Miami office's Pro Bono Committee, added: "To be recognized by the Florida Supreme Court for our efforts in helping those with economic barriers is both humbling and gratifying."

In announcing the award, the Florida Supreme Court underscored Hunton & Williams' achievements, including: dedication of more than 2,000 hours to the national Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program; representation for international child-abduction litigation and asylum cases; work for children's and victims' rights; assistance to nonprofits across the country; creation of three neighborhood-based pro bono offices in Atlanta, Ga., Richmond, Va., and Charlottesville, Va.; and establishment of two full-time pro bono fellowships for lawyers whose time is entirely committed to pro bono work. The court also recognized Hunton & Williams’ achievement of 100 percent of the 53 lawyers in the Miami office and 99 percent of the 950 lawyers in all of the firm's 14 U.S. offices providing pro bono legal representation to individuals and non-profit organizations that are devoted primarily to helping those in need.
