BRUSSELS — 17 August 2012 — Hunton & Williams has been recognized as the "2012 Chemical Law Firm of the Year, Belgium" by Corporate INTL magazine in its annual global awards listing of leading legal teams across a number of practice areas. The Corporate INTL Awards merit those who have demonstrated outstanding client service and legal knowledge. This is the fourth consecutive year of the awards program.

Hunton & Williams' environmental practice in Belgium is led by partner Lucas Bergkamp, whom Corporate INTL named 2011 Environmental Lawyer of the Year, Belgium. Bergkamp's practice focuses on the environment and life sciences, including regulatory, liability and related transactional work. An internationally recognized authority on European chemical law, he has published and lectured widely on chemical law and liability topics, including REACH (Registration, Evaluation Authorization and restriction of CHemicals), the Environmental Liability Directive, product stewardship, and sustainable production and consumption. Bergkamp and colleagues are currently preparing a book on the law and practice of REACH, expected to be published by Oxford University Press in the fall of 2012. This handbook addresses both the key legal and regulatory issues associated with REACH as well as the key management and practical challenges.

The firm's global environmental practice is often recognized by legal and trade publications. For two years in a row, in 2011 and 2012, Hunton & Williams was named a Law360 Environmental Group of the Year. Chambers and Partners rates Hunton & Williams a top environmental practice in its 2012 Chambers Europe and Chambers USA guides. In this year's Europe rankings, both the firm and Lucas Bergkamp maintained a Band 1 ranking in Environment: Regulatory. Additionally, the firm maintained its #1 national rank in the Environmental practice in the 2012 Chambers USA guide.
