NEW YORK — January 16, 2013 — Hunton & Williams' role advising on Mitsubishi Corporation’s acquisition of an approximate 34 percent equity interest in Mareña Renovables, a 396 MW wind power generation project located on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, has been recognized as the 2012 “Americas Wind Deal of the Year” by Project Finance International (PFI).

"We are pleased be recognized by PFI for our work with Mitsubishi in its effort to further expand its global renewable energy business," said Raj Pande, lead lawyer of the team.

When Mareña Renovables is completed at the end of 2013, it will be Latin America's largest single stage wind farm. Once completed, the wind farm could draw more growth to the community, as developers would potentially upgrade roads, start schools and get construction permits from local councils, putting money into residents hands.

The firm legal team, led by Pande, includes Michael Madden and Miki Kondo, of New York, Larry Skinner, of Washington, and Michael Sievers, of Richmond. Hunton & Williams has a dynamic renewable energy practice with particular experience in wind power. The firm routinely navigate clients through all aspects of regulatory and environmental permitting issues, construction contracting, operation and maintenance agreements, the negotiation and drafting of power purchase agreements, turbine supply agreements and equipment supply and warranty agreements.
