SAN FRANCISCO — September 3, 2014 — Hunton & Williams LLP announces Samuel L. Brown has joined the environmental practice as a senior attorney in its San Francisco office. Brown joins the firm from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, where he had been a lawyer since 2007, most recently in the Office of Regional Counsel in San Francisco (2010-2014) and previously in the Office of General Counsel in Washington, DC (2007-2010).

Throughout his career at the EPA, Brown represented the agency in a variety of actions, including notice and comment rulemaking; responses to petitions for adjudicative or regulatory actions; issuance and defense of EPA issued permits before the EPA’s Environmental Appeals Board; development of regulations; and work with state regulators on the implementation of delegated federal environmental regulatory programs. Brown also advised EPA’s Administrator and its General Counsel regarding the national implementation of federal environmental laws and regulatory programs; led investigations for violations of federal environmental laws; and pursued administrative and civil enforcement actions.
