WASHINGTON —Hunton & Williams LLP announces the expansion of its environmental law practice with the addition of Todd S. Mikolop in Washington as senior attorney. Mikolop joins from the US Department of Justice, Environmental Crimes Section, where he had been a trial lawyer since 2008. He previously was a lawyer with the US Coast Guard. In addition to his environmental practice, Mikolop will work closely with the firm’s white collar practices.

While with the Justice Department, Mikolop represented federal agencies in matters involving environmental criminal litigation. He has led investigations and prosecutions of corporations and individuals in many industries, including oil and gas, mining, public utilities, and internationally regulated shipping. He also has investigated and prosecuted complex white collar crimes, such as pollution and wildlife offenses, conspiracy, obstruction, money laundering and smuggling.

As an environmental crimes prosecutor, Mikolop worked with the Environmental Protection Agency, the US Fish & Wildlife Service, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. While with the US Coast Guard, he helped develop proposed federal legislation. He has also served as a liaison between the US Coast Guard and the US Attorney’s Office, fostering and continuing interagency relationships.

Hunton & Williams’ internationally recognized environmental practice has more than 50 lawyers devoted to air, water, natural resources, waste and other related matters. The group advises clients at all stages of environmental issues, from initial legislative and policy development, through implementation, compliance and court challenges.
