Hunton Andrews Kurth Represents Remarketing Agent in Connection with Georgia Power Company’s Tax-Exempt Remarketings

Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP represented the remarketing agent in connection with Georgia Power Company’s tax-exempt remarketings. The firm acted as counsel to Barclays Capital Inc., as the remarketing agent for the remarketing of (i) $10 million Development Authority of Burke County (Georgia) Pollution Control Revenue Bonds (Georgia Power Company Plant Vogtle Project), Second Series 1994 (the “Burke Second Series 1994 Bonds”); (ii) $55 million Development Authority of Burke County (Georgia) Pollution Control Revenue Bonds (Georgia Power Company Plant Vogtle Project), Fourth Series 1994 (the “Burke Fourth Series 1994 Bonds”); (iii) $20 million Development Authority of Burke County (Georgia) Pollution Control Revenue Bonds (Georgia Power Company Plant Vogtle Project), Ninth Series 1994 (the “Burke Ninth Series 1994 Bonds”); and (iv) $30 million Development Authority of Burke County (Georgia) Pollution Control Revenue Bonds (Georgia Power Company Plant Vogtle Project), Fourth Series 1995 (the “Burke Fourth Series 1995 Bonds,” together with the Burke Second Series 1994 Bonds, the Burke Fourth Series 1994 Bonds and the Burke Ninth Series 1994 Bonds, the “Bonds”). 

The Bonds were initially issued to refinance the acquisition, construction, installation and equipping of the interest of Georgia Power Company (“GPC”) in certain air and water pollution control and sewage and solid waste disposal facilities located at the Vogtle steam electric generating plant in Burke County, Georgia. 

GPC is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Southern Company. GPC is engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and purchase of electricity and the sale of electric service within the State of Georgia at retail in over 530 cities and towns (including Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Macon, Rome and Savannah), as well as in rural areas and at wholesale.
