Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that Lonnie D. (“Chip”) Nunley, III has been awarded the 2022 Lewis F. Powell Jr. Pro Bono Award by the Virginia State Bar. The Powell Award was established by the Special Committee on Access to Legal Services of the Virginia State Bar to honor attorneys and attorney groups that have made outstanding pro bono contributions.

Nunley, a partner who has practiced with Hunton Andrews Kurth for more than 35 years, regularly represents clients before State and Federal Courts in complex civil litigation, and before the Virginia State Corporation Commission in regulatory matters. Nunley also represents clients in pro bono matters and has been active in efforts to improve access to justice for Virginians. Nunley is a long-standing member of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee and is the partner in charge of Hunton’s Church Hill Pro Bono Office.

Nunley is a member of the Virginia Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Commission, has served on the board of the Legal Aid Justice Center and as chair of the Central Virginia Legal Aid Society board. He has served as chair of the Virginia State Bar’s Access to Legal Services Committee and as a member of the State Bar’s Professionalism Committee and Carrico Professionalism Faculty. He is a current member of Bar Council for the Virginia State Bar and of the Board of Governors of the Virginia Bar Association. Nunley is a long-standing member of the faculty of the National Trial Advocacy College.

The award will be presented to Nunley during the Virginia Pro Bono Conference in October.
