Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP announced today that C. Evans Poston Jr. has joined the firm as director of government relations, further expanding the firm’s reach and capabilities in Virginia. Poston is based in Norfolk, where he most recently was the city’s revenue commissioner.

As part of Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Global Economic Development, Commerce and Government Relations Group, the firm’s full-service public affairs and strategies consultancy, Poston will assist with state and local government relations; craft and implement legislative, budgetary and regulatory strategy; and drive economic development efforts on behalf of businesses, local governments, regional organizations and other clients.

His arrival marks the expansion of the firm’s government affairs and economic development capabilities to the Hampton Roads region, the nation’s 37th largest Metropolitan Statistical Area and a significant driver of Virginia’s economy, where nearly 2 million people live and work.

“Well-regarded in the business community and local and state government circles across Virginia, Evans will play a key role in Hunton Andrews Kurth’s efforts to help clients achieve their operational and expansion goals in Hampton Roads and beyond,” said Todd P. Haymore, managing director of the firm’s Global Economic Development, Commerce and Government Relations Group. “We are seeing tremendous economic diversification and other opportunities in this important region, and having Evans on the ground there will be a great asset to both our clients and our firm.”

Poston was first elected Norfolk’s commissioner of the revenue in 2013. Previously, he worked in various capacities for the transport and logistics conglomerate A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, including revenue management and growth, operations, sales and business development. He is a member of the University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors and the UVA Health System Board of Directors.

He received his undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary, and graduate degrees from Old Dominion University and the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
