Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP has completed Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule™ certification initiative, earning Mansfield Rule 5.0 Certification Plus status. This is the firm’s third consecutive year achieving Certification Plus status, reflecting the firm has both considered and achieved 30% representation of historically underrepresented lawyers to meet  Mansfield Rule’s measures.

“Our dedication to Diversity & Inclusion is longstanding, having established our first Diversity Committee 30 years ago. The results are seen in our diversity initiatives, leadership and commitments across the firm,” said managing partner Wally Martinez.

Named for Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to practice law in the United States, the Mansfield Rule initiative was created to boost and sustain diversity in leadership and the pipeline to leadership by focusing on three main pillars:

  1. Shifting cultures and mindsets through data tracking, advancement transparency, and considering a broad slate of 30-50% underrepresented talent for leadership roles and the activities guiding diversity to leadership;
  2. Sharing knowledge to provide a collective way to work, learn and succeed together as a community; and
  3. Increasing the marketplace visibility and economic power of underrepresented talent through Mansfield Client Forums, Diverse Partners Directory and more.

“We are champions of diversity and inclusion for two reasons: it inspires an inclusive culture in our firm and provides tremendous value to our clients.  We believe the recruitment, retention and promotion of a diverse and inclusive workforce optimizes our ability to deliver excellent client service, including alignment with our clients’ interests of staffing their legal teams with diverse talent,” said partner Shemin V. Proctor, who co-chairs the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee with partners A. Todd Brown and Emily Burkhardt Vicente.
