Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce the expansion of its global environmental practice with the addition of David C. McSweeney as counsel in the firm’s Boston office.

McSweeney’s practice focuses on environmental and health and safety legal issues associated with permitting, compliance, transactional due diligence, regulatory development, enforcement defense and related litigation. He brings close to 20 years of experience working with energy companies, including those in the oil and natural gas industries, as well as with manufacturers, financial institutions and other corporations.

Before joining Hunton Andrews Kurth, McSweeney most recently was in-house counsel at a Fortune 500 midstream energy company in the natural gas and natural gas liquids industry, ONEOK, Inc., where he was lead environmental attorney.

“The addition of Dave McSweeney not only increases our team’s regional reach in the Northeast, but also brings decades of experience supporting major energy and infrastructure projects,” said Deidre G. Duncan, co-leader of Hunton Andrews Kurth’s environmental practice. “The New England region will be a key area for expansion as we continue to develop our environmental practice.”

Practice co-leader Makram B. Jaber added: “Dave’s immense breadth of experience in midstream energy will provide valuable insight to our clients. We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

Hunton Andrews Kurth’s global environmental practice of nearly 60 attorneys has helped clients in energy, automobile, chemical, manufacturing, oil and natural gas, commercial real estate, mining and mineral extractive industries navigate regulatory, permitting, compliance and enforcement matters across air, water, waste and natural resource law for more than 45 years. The practice and many of its lawyers are ranked Band 1 nationally by Chambers USA and Chambers Global, as well as by many other reputable ranking publications.
