Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is proud to announce that VCU Massey Cancer Center has established the Rudene Mercer Haynes Clinical Trials Office Summer Internship, which aims to develop a foundational appreciation for the role of academic medicine in cancer research and the impact of research on cancer disparities throughout Virginia and the nation, to honor partner Rudene Mercer Haynes’ tireless advocacy and commitment to service of others. VCU Massey Cancer Center plans to welcome the first class of interns this summer.

“I am humbled by this honor and pledge to continue my support of the live-saving and life-changing work performed by the brilliant clinicians and researchers at VCU Massey Cancer Center every day,” said Haynes.

Founded in 1974, VCU Massey Cancer Center was one of the country’s original cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute, is the only cancer center in the Richmond metropolitan region, and is the first of only two in the state designated by the National Cancer Institute, placing it among the top 4 percent of cancer centers in the country. Through innovative research, patient care, education and community engagement, VCU Massey Cancer Center works to discover, develop, and deliver effective means to prevent, detect, treat and cure cancer.

“Rudene Mercer Haynes embodies the spirit of service that VCU Massey Cancer holds as one of its guiding principles,” said Tremayne D. Robertson, Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, VCU Massey Cancer Center. “The interns selected to participate in the Rudene Mercer Haynes CTO Summer Internship will be expected live up to her standard of excellence, service, and humor.”
