Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP (formerly Hunton & Williams and Andrews Kurth Kenyon) is pleased to announce that Taylor Thornley Keeney has joined its new Global Economic Development, Commerce and Government Relations practice as director of strategic communications and advocacy.
Keeney will lead efforts to provide strategic communications, media relations, public affairs, and grassroots management to clients of the practice, which is headed by Managing Director Todd P. Haymore.
“Taylor brings extensive experience in political, corporate, and nonprofit communications and advocacy work,” Haymore said. “She is an integral part of our team, and is a great addition to our growing practice to help our clients achieve their strategic goals.”
Hunton Andrews Kurth launched its Global Economic Development, Commerce and Government Relations practice in March under Haymore’s leadership. With its founding, the group expanded its lobbying and government relations practice to be more full-service, and now offers economic development, communications, and grassroots services for new and existing clients.
“When we founded this practice group, we knew it was essential that we provide top-notch strategic communications and advocacy services to clients,” said Randall S. Parks, co-chair of the firm’s corporate practice. “In today’s landscape, communications and advocacy support – from the unlimited boundaries of social media to corporate boardrooms, government capitals, newsrooms, or the streets of local neighborhoods – is vital to helping our clients achieve their goals.”
A press secretary for former Gov. Bob McDonnell, Keeney most recently operated her own consulting firm, working on issue advocacy campaigns and for clients in the political, nonprofit and technology sectors.
Keeney also led regional communications for Teach for America and worked as deputy press secretary and communications director, respectively, for the gubernatorial campaigns of McDonnell and Bill Bolling, as well as communications director for John Adams for Virginia attorney general. She also served as press assistant to Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, during his 2008 presidential campaign. Keeney is a graduate of Southern Methodist University.
