Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is excited to announce that New York-based Managing Partner Wally Martinez has been selected for inclusion in the 2022 Notable Hispanic Leaders list by Crain’s New York Business. This special editorial feature highlights “the diverse professionals who are shaping companies and institutions in the New York metropolitan area—in both the nonprofit and private sectors.” Earlier this year, he was named to the 2022 Notable Diverse Leaders in Law list by Crain’s New York Business.

Martinez has been managing partner of the firm since 2006, when he was at the time one of the youngest global law firm leaders and one of few Hispanic-Americans to run a major law firm. He functions as the firm’s global CEO, with responsibility for managing the enterprise, implementing firm strategy, and leading the 60th largest US law firm by gross revenue. He also practices complex business litigation and white collar criminal defense.

The Hispanic Leaders honor is based on Martinez’s dedication and contributions to elevating the Hispanic American community in the New York City metro area, among other factors. Thankful for the community support he received early on and inspired to give back, Martinez is particularly focused on providing educational building blocks for economically disadvantaged youth across nationalities and ethnicities, including Hispanic Americans, in and around New York City. He is a Trustee of George Jackson Academy, NYC’s only independent middle school for academically-talented boys from underserved communities, and a mentor for Shepherds, an organization empowering under-resourced teens in Bridgeport, CT, to build a foundation for success, providing a positive influence and support through high school and college.

Martinez’s values are evident in his leadership of the firm. For 13 consecutive years during his service as managing partner, the firm has attained 100% full-time US lawyer participation in pro bono service projects. Additionally, his support for diversity and inclusion initiatives helped guide the firm to achieving a perfect score on the 2022 Corporate Equality Index.
