Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP partner Emily Burkhardt Vicente was selected by Corporate Counsel as a law firm Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Champion in the publication’s list of the Women, Influence & Power in Law Awards 2021. The award recognizes women leaders “who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the empowerment of women in law.”

Co-chair of the firm’s labor and employment team, Vicente is an accomplished trial lawyer who has defended some of the largest Fortune 100 companies in high-stakes employment and wage-hour litigation and is experienced in taking hybrid class and collective action cases to jury trial. She has helped a number of clients navigate sexual harassment claims fraught with legal and public relations challenges in the #metoo era. In her counseling practice, Vicente assists companies in developing forward-thinking compliance strategies that reduce disputes and mitigate employment-related risks. Recently, she has creatively advised a variety of businesses through workforce issues attendant to closing, reopening and operating a business during the unprecedented challenges created by COVID-19. Vicente also works with companies nationwide on the design and implementation of diversity and inclusion programs and other ESG initiatives. Additionally, she serves as co-chair of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, which is dedicated to advancing the promotion, retention and advancement of diverse lawyers and staff within the firm and community. Most recently Vicente was selected as a “visionary” in the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Business of Law Awards 2021, listed as a 2021 Women of Influence by the Los Angeles Business Journal and named among the 2020 Women Worth Watching by Profiles in Diversity Journal.

All honorees, including Vicente, were recognized at an awards dinner on October 7 and will be profiled individually through the month of October.
