Eric Burner, a partner in the firm’s structured finance and securitization practice, led the “Non-QM Mortgage Securitization Outlook” panel at the ABS Vegas 2015 conference in February. During the panel presentation, Burner moderated the discussion of the non-QM product types currently being originated. He also commented on the challenges facing non-QM mortgage securitizations, such as the disconnect in interest rate expectations between credit-challenged borrowers and investors willing to acquire exposures to those loans, the lower interest rates available on conforming loans, and uncertainties regarding potential Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regulation of mortgage lending to consumers down the credit chain. More than 6,000 industry professionals participated in this year’s conference, sponsored by SFIG and IMN.
