Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP partners Shannon Broome, Cassandra (Sandy) Collins and Lorelie S. Masters have been named to Benchmark Litigation’s 2022 Top 250 Women in Litigation. The publication honors the accomplishments and distinguished careers of female litigators nationwide and recognizes them as top players in their respective fields.

Honorees in the Top 250 Women in Litigation publication have earned their place amongst the leading female litigators by participating in some of the most impactful litigation matters in recent history as well as by earning the hard-won respect of their peers and clients.

Benchmark Litigation noted, “Shannon Broome is the managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office and leads the firm’s California environmental practice. She litigates high profile climate change cases and environmental enforcement matters. Her prior experience as a chemical engineer in the oil and gas industry affords her unparalleled insights into the development of regulations and counsel on environmental, health and safety issues. Shannon is a nationally recognized authority on Clean Air Act and climate change matters, with more than 25 years of experience addressing all aspects of the Clean Air Act… [and] Broome [has been] appointed… by the Administrator of the US EPA to the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee, which advises the EPA on appropriate implementation of the statute.”

Benchmark continued to write, “Sandy Collins is a partner in Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Richmond, VA office and she co-leads the firm’s Energy Litigation Practice Group. She represents clients in a broad range of commercial disputes in state and federal courts across the United States and in settlement negotiations. As an effective negotiator and a highly experienced first-chair trial and appellate attorney, she has helped manufacturers, energy companies, mining companies, utilities, beverage distributors and other major corporations streamline their existing dockets, resolve mission-critical disputes, prevent future litigation and minimize litigation-related expenses overall. Sandy’s extensive background and understanding of the supply chain enable her to focus on the key issues in a dispute and develop effective strategies that achieve clients’ short- and long-term objectives. At the firm, Sandy serves as Administrative Team Partner for the litigation group, helping ensure that clients receive appropriate and cost-effective legal counsel.” This is the seventh consecutive year Collins has been named to the list.

Furthermore, Benchmark highlighted, “Lorelie Masters has won significant decisions, trials, and arbitrations enforcing insurance for clients, including confidential international arbitrations and litigations for clients like New Century Liquidating Trust, Hoechst Celanese/Ticona, and Dow Corning. A sought-after writer, speaker, and leader on coverage issues, Ms. Masters served as an Adviser for eight years to the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law, Liability Insurance. Named a “top 10” lawyer in DC, she has served on the American Bar Association’s Board of Governors, as President of the Women’s D.C. Bar Association, and as an officer of the D.C. Bar Foundation.” In addition, the 3rd edition of the award winning book Liability Insurance in International Arbitration: The Bermuda Form that Masters co-authored with Sir Richard Jacobs and Paul Stanley QC was recently published in November 2021. She is also a cofounder and the second President of the American College of Coverage Counsel and serves as Co-Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation’s Federal Practice Task Force.
